ifosfamide has similar side effects to doxorubicin, I mean, normal side effects because they're the familiar ones the docs and nurses have been telling me about. However, it causes hair loss (alopecia) in 83% of patients and nausa/vomiting and hematuria in 50% of patients.
the patient should drink lots of water. 2 liters a day!.It is often used in conjunction with Mesna to avoid internal bleeding in the patient, in particular hemorrhagic cystitis. For this reason, another sarcoma patient I met, advised me to drink a lot of water to help minimize the side-effects of ifosfamide. That was the guy on his 3rd relapse. He is getting 8 straight days of ifosfamide so he knows clearly the side effects possible to his urinary tract. not just to the urinary tract, but drinking lots of water and keeping hydrated may help combat other side effects such as those of the blood work.
One source just comes out and says:
Daily fluid intake must be at least 2 liters.
Ifosfamide is in a class of drugs known as alkylating agents; it slows or stops the growth of cancer cells in your body.
Remember, these things which stop cell division affect those areas of your body which need to replace themselves quickly
the half-life is only a few hours, so therefore, the concentration should be almost nothign soon after treatment ends??
